Symposium: Improving Learning Environments in the Health Professions
About the event
The Health Sciences will be hosting Drs. David Irby and Sandrijn van Schaik world-class scholars who have published and spoke widely about medical education.
Educators, researchers, and accreditors have all highlighted the importance of the learning environments (LE) in health professions education; yet, there is little uniformity about definitions and measuring instruments. This symposium builds on the results of a 2018 national consensus conference convened by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation titled: Improving Learning Environments for the Health Professions. Dr. Irby chaired this conference and Dr. van Schaik co-authored a vision paper about exemplary learning environments.
They will share a new framework for understanding learning environments, provide specific examples of interventions designed to create a positive environment for learning, offer suggestions for creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive learning environment, and engage participants in activities that help them apply these ideas to their own environment.
