About the event

Why do we need fieldwork (the way we study the unstudied)? Why should an inclusive landscape approach, over looking at individual buildings, be a fundamental tenet of fieldwork? Finally, what is “western” about the western American vernacular landscape?

Professor Emeritus of Architectural History from the University of Utah, Thomas Carter, has a degree in history from Brown University and studied folklore at both the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Indiana University His chief research interest has been the building traditions of the western United States Please join us for this intriguing presentation and be inspired by Professor Carter’s approach to defining the western American identity.
