About the event

WSU’s Vocal Extravaganza has been a Dad’s Weekend tradition for 33 years and each year is an exciting program designed to entertain! Don’t miss an opportunity to experience performances by the 5 top choral groups in the School of Music showcased in this event: Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Opera Workshop, Treble Choir and Tenor/Bass Choir. Tickets for this family friendly event will be available at the door, beginning at 7pm in Bryan Hall Lobby on the night of the event: $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students with ID, and free for children 12 and under.

Madrigal Singers, conducted by Lori Wiest, will feature madrigals and motets from the Renaissance and a contemporary English folksong arranged for a cappella vocal ensemble Voces8. Treble Choir’s performance will highlight the beautiful and inspirational selection, No Time and is directed by new faculty member Christopher Nakielski. WSU’s Tenor/Bass Choir, directed by Dean Luethi, will present American and Irish favorites.

Magnificent Mozart is the title of this year’s Opera Workshop performance, featuring scenes from two of his best loved operas: Le Nozze di Figaro and Cosi fan tutte. They are accompanied by new faculty member, Mark Stevens, and directed by Julie Anne Wieck.

Concluding the program will be the WSU Concert Choir, conducted by Lori Wiest, performing 4 varied selections from the Real Group’s a cappella song Lucky Luke, in honor of the wise advice we get from our parents, to Stacey Gibb’s rousing spiritual, Rock-A My Soul.

The Concert Choir will also be sponsoring a bake sale at the intermission as a fundraising event for their upcoming performance at Leavenworth’s Tree-Lighting event on December 2.
