About the event

Thell Rooney is the Deputy Chief of the Contracting Office for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Waterfront Support.  He is responsible for contracted ship repair, modernization, and overhaul of Nuclear Aircraft Carriers, Submarines and Surface Ships in Puget Sound as well as emergent repairs in Guam, Japan, and San Diego.  Mr. Rooney exercises an unlimited Contracting Officers warrant and oversees a department with offices and staff in Bremerton, Bangor, and Everett.  In the last year his code has also staffed offices in San Diego and Seattle. Mr. Rooney has a Masters Certification in Project Management, MBA, DOD DAWIA Level III certification in Contracting, and is a member of the DOD Acquisition Corps, National Contract Management Association, Naval Civilian Managers Association. Thell and his wife Jennifer have three great kids and love to square dance and travel.

This presentation is part of a semester-long seminar on the “soft”, but hard to learn, professional skills that are essential to a successful engineering career. The speakers are engineers and other members of Kitsap technology firms. Topics that will be covered in the seminar include project management, communication, ethics, process safety, divergent thinking, careers in large engineering firms, and working for global engineering firms.
