PROGRAM

The second annual WSU Flute Day will feature guest artist Dr. Daniel Velasco, Associate Professor of Flute at the University of Kansas. Velasco is an award-winning flutist whose “standout” and “vibrant” performances (Miami Herald) have taken him around the world. He is the first prize winner of the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, WAMSO Minnesota Orchestra Competition, MTNA Young Artist Competition, Claude Monteux Flute Competition, second prize winner of the William C. Byrd Competition and finalist at the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh International Competition.

As the featured guest artist, Velasco will give a master class featuring WSU flute students. He will also perform a recital with WSU faculty pianist Dr. Yoon-Wha Roh and Dr. Sophia Tegart, Associate Professor of Flute (Career Track). The flute day will also include tone and technique classes for all levels of flutists, a flute choir reading session with performance, and an exhibit hall featuring instruments, music, and more, courtesy of The Flute Center of New York.
