Multi-terminal high-voltage dc (HVDC) grids, or multi-terminal dc (MTDC) grids, are considered enabling technology for the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources and the modernization of electric power grids. MTDC grids offer efficient long-distance power transmission as well as resource sharing across multiple regions with different time-zones and grid frequencies.

Catalytic reactions occur far from equilibrium and may therefore exhibit multiple steady states leading to hysteresis or even oscillatory behavior and chaos.

This talk will introduce the E-COMP project and explain how the principle of co-design can be used to optimize design and operational decisions in a joint way for multiple objectives. An example use case of offshore wind integration will also be presented to highlight the utility of the approaches being pursued.

This lecture’s topic is threefold: The first part will cover a new modularized high frequency DC-link integration methodology that connects multisource renewable energy sources involving battery energy storage system (BESS) to the AC-grid. The second will focus on a novel encoder less control of permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance generator (PMa-SynRG) based-stator current vector for renewable energy systems. And the third encompasses AI/ML applications with power electronics, especially online learning data-driven based control for grid connected power converters within DC microgrid applications. Performance assessment of both dynamic and steady-state behaviors of the proposed techniques under various operational conditions will then be highlighted.
