La Granada: Short Films Inspired by Food
On Monday, February 3 from 5:00-6:30 pm, join WSU student filmmaker Hollen Foster-Grahler at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU for a screening of her short film “La Granada”. Shot in Aberystwyth, Wales, the film is a visual journey exploring feminine rage, empowerment, and community through surrealist imagery and movement. The title and central emblem of the film, la granada, is the Spanish word for both “pomegranate” and “grenade”—simultaneously a symbol of femininity and destruction. Through this dual meaning, the film examines the precarious nature of womanhood: What happens when that potential energy is finally released?

Join local artist Marilyn Lysohir on Thursday, February 6 from 4:00-5:30 pm, to learn about the history of chocolate and how it has influenced her artistic practice. Lysohir’s first job was at a candy store in Pennsylvania and she took a break from her art career to start Cowgirl Chocolates in Moscow, ID in the mid-1990s. Lysohir’s life-sized ceramic work Bad Manners (Version 2) is currently on view as part our 50th anniversary exhibition, Your Collection: Faculty Remix, on view January 14 through June 28, 2025.

Explore the art of zines in a free workshop led by WSU Scholarly Assistant Professor David Janssen Jr. on Saturday, February 8, from 1:00–3:00 pm at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU. During this workshop we will talk about love and receive an introduction to zines: What is a zine and how do you make one? Using current museum exhibitions, we will discuss artists and makers who use similar themes and feelings in their work. Finally, we will be challenged to create a zine that expresses something about things you LOVE with creative words and images. We will use mixed media processes including collage, free form poetry, illustrations, and more. All are welcome: Enjoy a relaxing workshop and make loving and tender artworks inspired by love.

Bring the family to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU on the second Saturday of each month (through June 2026*) for story time and hands-on art activities!

Each month kicks off at 10:00am with a featured children’s book, followed by an exhibition tour and creative art-making activities designed…

Visiting Artist Stacy Isenbarger will be giving an artist talk on Thursday, February 20th, in conjunction with an exhibition in the Fine Art Center’s Gallery 2.
