With increasingly more stringent emission regulations and the need to limit carbon emissions, the automotive industry is facing many new challenges.

Converting CO2 to value-added chemicals and fuels is one of the most practical routes for reducing CO2 emissions while fossil fuels continue to dominate the energy sector in the near future.

Single-atom catalysis represents an exciting area of research due to the potential to uniquely transform the activity and selectivity of transition metal catalysts. However, our fundamental understanding of their activity and stability under reaction conditions is limited.
