About the event

College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Academy

Presenter: Megan Connolly, Instructional Designer, CON

“After I had the chance to sit in on a few team-based learning (TBL) courses in the veterinary curriculum at the University of Arizona, I was curious about how it worked and if it was something that could be done in our curriculum at WSU. I did additional training over the summer, then implemented 10 hours of TBL into the fall internal medicine course in 2023. Along the way, I kept notes on my experiences learning and implementing TBL and gathered data on from the students’ perspectives, which I will share during this session.”

Transparency in teaching leads to better learner outcomes; one way that faculty can increase transparency is through assignment design. This workshop will introduce the Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) framework, which can be used to create more transparent and learner-centered assignments.

Objectives:

1. Delineate how pedagogical transparency leads to better learner outcomes.

2. Evaluate sample assignments using the TILT framework.

3. Apply the TILT framework to create more transparent assignments.
