Physics & Astronomy Colloquium
About the event
The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites you to a colloquium featuring Simon Blouin, Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Victoria, Canada. Dr. Blouin’s talk, “When stellar evolution takes a break: A 10-billion-year pause in white dwarf cooling” will be held Thursday, October 10th, at 12:10 pm in Webster 11.
Please meet our guest speaker and share in refreshments 11:45 a.m. -12:10 p.m. in the foyer on floor G above the lecture hall.
Zoom available for those unable to attend in person. Attendance in person is required by students enrolled in PHYS 590.
“Differential Geometry in Physics”
Differential geometry is based upon new and perhaps strange definitions of vectors and differentials. Though abstract, the resulting formalism can bring deeper understanding to the theory underlying many areas of physics. I will provide a pedagogical invitation to the vast subject of differential geometry and to some of its physical applications.
