About the event

Engineering Resilient Power Grid: From Understanding Risk to Informing Decisions
Lecturer:
Dr. Anamika Dubey is Huie-Rogers Endowed Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering in the School of EECS at Washington State University (WSU), Pullman. She also holds a joint appointment as a Research Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and serves as the Co-director for the WSU-PNNL Advanced Grid Institute. She received her MSE and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012 and 2015, respectively. Her research focuses on the scalable integration of cross-domain models and data to provide better decision support for increasingly complex electric power grids. She is a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2019), the IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award (2023), and WSU/VCEA Anjan Bose Outstanding Researcher Award (2026).
Abstract:
The electric power grid is rapidly evolving due to rising electricity demand, distributed energy resources, and increasing exposure to extreme weather. These trends challenge traditional planning and operations, creating a need for new methods to assess risks, evaluate system impacts, and support decision-making under uncertainty. This lecture will discuss how outage data, vulnerability models, and optimization techniques can be used to assess weather-related risks and improve grid resilience. It will also highlight emerging challenges in the Pacific Northwest, including load growth, transmission constraints, and wildfire disruptions, illustrating how data-driven and optimization-based tools can support more resilient power systems.
