Advances in Immunology and Microbiology Seminar Series
About the event
Featuring research in the areas of:
Epidemiology | Infectious Disease | Disease Ecology | Drug Discovery | Virology |
Global Health | Vector-Borne Disease | Pathology
The Advances in Immunology & Microbiology seminar series is a weekly forum that brings together scientists from diverse fields and disciplines across the College of Veterinary Medicine to discuss research advances in the broad areas of immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and global health. Seminars feature student speakers from the Immunology & Infectious Disease (IID) doctoral program, IID-affiliated postdoctoral researchers and faculty, intramural speakers from across the university, and extramural speakers.

TITLE: The Chlamydial Developmental Cycle
Abstract:
The Grieshaber Laboratory studies Chlamydia trachomatis, the bacteria responsible for the world’s most common bacterial STI and a leading cause of preventable blindness. Despite its impact on global health, much about how this organism survives and spreads remains a mystery. Chlamydia invades and replicates inside human cells, cycling between a dormant form that infects new cells and an active form that multiplies. Our lab uses advanced genetic and imaging tools to decode the molecular switches that control this cycle. By understanding how the bacteria controls the cycle, we aim to uncover new ways to prevent and treat infection.
