ESIC SP25 Power Seminar Series: Evolution of Grid Operation and Control (Contd) by Professor Anjan Bose

Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Building
EME 26 - ESIC Conference Room

About the event

Energy Systems Innovation Center (ESIC) hosts “Evolution of Grid Operation and Control (Contd)” to be presented by Professor Anjan Bose, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, WSU

Abstract

The EMS have evolved into very large systems as covered in the previous seminar, because of the continuing development of computation and communications. With the cost reductions of digitalization, these grid operation and control technologies are now being applied to the distribution systems and operator training. In the last decade the Distribution Management Systems (DMS) have evolved rapidly and deployed all over the world. Also operators are now routinely trained on Operator Training Simulators (OTS) which have evolved to be an added feature in any control center.

Bio

Dr. Anjan Bose is globally known as a technical leader in the power grid control industry, a researcher in electric power engineering, and administrator in higher education. He is a Regents Professor at Washington State University, where he also served as the Dean of Engineering and Architecture (1998-2005) and in 2012-13 served as a Senior Advisor to the US Department of Energy (DOE) during the Obama administration. Major breakthroughs in power system control technology under his leadership are industrial practice today. He has continued to be a technical leader in this industry and a prominent consultant.

Dr. Bose is a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a founding Member and elected President of the Washington State Academy of Sciences, a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the IEEE and is active in several international professional societies. He is also the author of The Hippies of Telegraph Avenue (2021); sharing his educational journey and life experiences during his first year in America.
