Flowers in Song encompasses over 400 years of art song performed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck, soprano and Elena Panchenko, piano. Composers often personify flowers to mirror the human condition; this program includes songs from Scarlatti to Donizetti, Mozart to Strauss, Liza Lehmann to Charles Ives and Faure. The final set is by contemporary composer, Rosephanye Powell, entitled Miss Wheatley’s Garden, honors Phillis Wheatley, America’s first black poet.
