About the event

Energy conservation measures are essential in transitioning to a 100% renewable society. However, the ultimate goal is to reach an almost zero carbon emission balance. Net-zero energy and net-zero carbon are two different targets that must be as clear as possible within the limitations of semantics. The lecture will navigate the complex realm of net-zero targets and, using precedents, will show the implications of designing a building to target net-zero energy consumption and/or carbon emissions. Energy efficiency, sufficiency, and operational carbon emissions will be side topics focused on to support the student’s understanding of performance gaps that result from operational building consumption that is higher than expected. These topics will focus mainly on the residential sector, where user behavior often significantly impacts actual building performance.
