Opera Workshop

About the event

The singers from Opera Workshop will present Princesses and Pirates:  A Celebration of Gilbert and Sullivan.  Scenes from two of the comic operettas composed by the team of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan will be performed.  Princess Ida takes place at a women’s college, founded by the lead character in order to avoid an arranged marriage.  The walls are breached, however, by three young men, including her intended.  The Pirates of Penzance involves a young man, wrongfully indentured to a pirate crew until his 21st birthday.  Upon his release, he has his first real encounter with the fairer sex, a beautiful group of sisters.  The program is directed by Dr. Julie Anne Wieck and accompanied by Dr. Lark Powers.

This concert is open to the public and without charge.
