About the event

The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites all to a colloquium featuring Dr. Richard Scalettar, Physics Department at University of California, Davis. Dr. Scalettar will present their talk, “Is Perfect Quantum State Transfer Possible?”

Abstract: The Heisenberg uncertainty principle and the probabilistic nature of measurements are at the core of quantum mechanics. That one cannot know the precise position and velocity of a quantum particle would seem completely to preclude traveling from one unique position to another.  Yet achieving such high fidelity time evolution is at the heart of quantum computing and quantum information technology generally.

In this talk, I will describe how, somewhat counter to our Heisenberg uncertainty relation intuition, “perfect quantum state transfer” can occur.
