About the event

Rabies is the most lethal of all infectious diseases and kills over 60,000 people each year in Africa and Asia, mainly children. A statistic made even more tragic by the fact that an effective vaccine was developed over 100 years ago.

When rabies began wiping out wild carnivores from the Serengeti ecosystem, the search was on for from the source. This is the story of the search for the cause of rabies and how our new understanding of the virus gives us clues to how it might eventually be controlled. A rare win-win for humans and wildlife alike.

Join the conversation about critical steps being taken to eliminate this deadly disease with Dr. Felix Lankester, from WSU Rabies Free Africa.

This free event is part of the Pacific Science Center’s Global Health and Development lecture series. Sponsors for this event are the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Washington Global Health Alliance. The event is free though registration is required.
