Thiols play critical roles in cell biology. These include maintaining redox homeostasis, as well as the modulation and regulation of protein activity. Dysregulation of thiols has been linked to several diseases including diabetes, cancer, and neurodegenerative disease. For this reason, there is a need for tools for the detection and labeling of thiols. Thiol blocking reagents can be used to label and identification of protein thiols.

In this seminar, the development and validation of performance-based seismic retrofit (PBSR) methodology is being presented. Unlike traditional force-based design methods, the PBSR method enables engineers to design and retrofit buildings to explicitly meet the pre-defined performance criteria for different levels of earthquake intensity; and eventually, results in a more efficient and comprehensive method of retrofitting multi-story buildings.

SURCA 2022, the annual Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, will feature the poster presentations of around 200 students engaged in mentored research, scholarship, and creative activities. Undergraduates from all majors, years in college, and campuses will discuss their work and results across nine categories. Judges’ evaluations will determine top presenters, who will receive awards. SURCA 2022 will be in person in Pullman; presenters at a distance will use virtual technologies to participate.
