Energy Systems Innovation Center (ESIC) hosts Modeling and Control of Multi-Phase Electric Machines: Advancing Transportation Electrification presented live by our very own Professor Anjan Bose
Overview
This is a roundtable discussion rather than a presentation. Let us explore some of the difficult steps that need to be taken in moving towards more renewable energy. The challenges depend on geography, the physical structure of the grid, the availability of generation resources, the regulatory structure, and many other factors. For a large country as the USA these factors vary widely and so will the solutions. Looking across the world, these factors multiply exponentially which is why the meetings of the nations to discuss a world strategy, known as the COP annual meetings, have agreed on very little.

Emergent Phenomena in Old Materials
Presented by
Dr. Kevin Kittilstved, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Washington State University
The digitalization of grid operation and control occurred in the 1960s with the hard wired measurement, communication and control being replaced by digital measurements and control signals being communicated on microwave channels. Thes SCADA-AGC systems were further augmented with analytical applications to develop the complete EMS in the 70s. These EMS have evolved into very large systems because of the continuing development of computation and communications. With the cost reductions of digitalization, these grid operation and control technologies are now being applied to the distribution systems and operator training.

On the 4th Monday of each month, the Engineering Education Research Center and Community Leadership Council will host a gathering to discuss a paper about engineering or architecture education. Pizza and soda are provided. All faculty, staff, students, and postdocs are invited. The reading for Feb 24 is The Modalities of Governance in Engineering Education. We hope that everyone can read the paper prior to the event, but all are welcome even if they haven’t read it yet.
