Generating functions are power series whose coefficients relate to combinatorial sequences. Using set constructions, we can produce the generating function for a myriad of challenging combinatorial problems.

Dr. Eric Chi is an associate professor in the Department of Statistics at Rice University. Dr. Chi is a recipient of the NSF Career Award and has an M.S. in Electrical Engineering, and a Ph.D. and M.A. in Statistics. His colloquium MCMC Importance Sampling via Moreau-Yosida Envelopes is on October 31st.
