About the event

Title: “From Sensing to Silicon: Building Brain-Inspired Intelligence for Autonomous Drones”

Speaker: Dr. Kaushik Roy
Dr. Roy is the Edward G. Tiedemann, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University and a leading researcher in low-power VLSI, neuromorphic computing, and AI hardware. An IIT Kharagpur and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign alumnus, he has advised more than 120 PhD students and received numerous honors, including the NSF CAREER Award, IEEE Technical Achievement Award, and DoD Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship.

Lecture Abstract
Neuromorphic computing applies brain-inspired principles to enable efficient AI for edge applications. Using vision-based drone navigation as an example, this talk highlights event-driven sensing, spiking neural networks, and specialized hardware architectures, while discussing key challenges in algorithm-hardware co-design and large-scale integration.
