About the event

Featuring research in the areas of:
Epidemiology | Infectious Disease | Disease Ecology | Drug Discovery | Virology |
Global Health | Vector-Borne Disease | Pathology

The Advances in Immunology & Microbiology seminar series is a weekly forum that brings together scientists from diverse fields and disciplines across the College of Veterinary Medicine to discuss research advances in the broad areas of immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and global health. Seminars feature student speakers from the Immunology & Infectious Disease (IID) doctoral program, IID-affiliated postdoctoral researchers and faculty, intramural speakers from across the university, and extramural speakers.

PRESENTER: Dr. Kate Huyvaert, professor and Rocky Crate and Wild Sheep Foundation Endowed Chair

TITLE: Not such a bird-brained idea: Using disease ecology to bridge the gap between medicine and management

Brief ABSTRACT: Emergence of infectious diseases is linked to changes in the ecology of hosts, pathogens, and their shared environments, especially at the boundaries or interfaces between landscapes where pathogen spillover can occur. In this talk, I’ll use recent and ongoing work on wildlife infectious diseases in my lab to explore how the field of disease ecology can help bridge disciplines from veterinary medicine to wildlife disease management.
