About the event

Welcome back, Cougs! Now that we’ve explored the basics of Coug Day and the role of legislators, it’s time to shift gears and focus on you—your story, your voice, and your impact.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • Differences of the terms you may hear
  • Go over basics from Meeting 1 to recap
  • What makes an effective advocacy message
  • How to connect personal experiences to policy issues
  • Crafting a 60-second elevator pitch for your legislator meetings
  • Tips for staying confident, clear, and authentic in conversation

Whether you’re advocating for mental health resources, tuition equity, or support for online students, your story matters. Legislators want to hear from real students—and that’s where your power lies.

As your Director of Legislative Affairs, I’ll walk you through examples, offer feedback, and help you shape a message that resonates. Together, we’ll turn passion into purpose and prepare you to speak with clarity and conviction at the Capitol.
