About the event

Dual Topic Seminar:  Catching Falling Conductors in Midair – Detecting and Tripping Broken Distribution Circuit Conductors at Protection Speeds and Nontraditional Approach to Generator Measurements and Model Validation to be presented by Ceeman Vellaithurai and Kamal Garg, Schweitzer Engineering Lab – Pullman

Overview

Topic 1:  Catching Falling Conductors in Midair – Detecting and Tripping Broken Distribution Circuit Conductors at Protection Speeds

PMU applications for new falling conductor detection scheme that trips the affected circuit section in the narrow time window between the moment of the break and the time the conductor hits the ground.

Topic 2:  Nontraditional Approach to Generator Measurements and Model Validation

This presentation discusses PMUs and rotor angle measurement system that was installed and commissioned at San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). This installation provides real-time monitoring and recording of generator rotor angle as well as field excitation quantities.
