ESIC SP25 Power Seminar Series ~ Challenges for Decarbonizing the Grid by Dr. Anjan Bose
About the event
Energy Systems Innovation Center (ESIC) hosts Modeling and Control of Multi-Phase Electric Machines: Advancing Transportation Electrification presented live by our very own Professor Anjan Bose
Overview
This is a roundtable discussion rather than a presentation. Let us explore some of the difficult steps that need to be taken in moving towards more renewable energy. The challenges depend on geography, the physical structure of the grid, the availability of generation resources, the regulatory structure, and many other factors. For a large country as the USA these factors vary widely and so will the solutions. Looking across the world, these factors multiply exponentially which is why the meetings of the nations to discuss a world strategy, known as the COP annual meetings, have agreed on very little.
Bio
Dr. Anjan Bose is globally known as a technical leader in the power grid control industry, a researcher in electric power engineering, and administrator in higher education. He is a Regents Professor at Washington State University, where he also served as the Dean of Engineering and Architecture (1998-2005) and in 2012-13 served as a Senior Advisor to the US Department of Energy (DOE) during the Obama administration. Major breakthroughs in power system control technology under his leadership are industrial practice today. He has continued to be a technical leader in this industry and a prominent consultant.
Dr. Bose is a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a founding Member and elected President of the Washington State Academy of Sciences, a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the IEEE, and is active in several international professional societies. He is also the author of “The Hippies of Telegraph Avenue” (2021); sharing a portion of his educational journey and life experiences during his first year in America.
