About the event

This session will begin by explaining Brené Brown’s theory of shame and pairing it with the First Freaking Times Model of how to manage hurdles that come with being a first-generation college student.  First Gen College Students can face all sorts of emotions like shame, imposter syndrome, and inadequate preparation as they enter the university environment.  This session looks at how naming and normalizing experiences can work to root you in a new unknown environment.

Driven by our commitment to support student engagement and serve as a launchpad for highly impactful practices, the Office of Academic Engagement has been working with various community partners and professional staff outside of the university to provide students with workshops to complement their learning and support them during these trying times. These workshops will be delivered via ZOOM.  Once registered, our office will email the instructions on how to connect prior to the event.
