Title: Electron Paramagnetic Resonance: An Introduction to New Techniques and Capabilities

Abstract:

The WSU Chemistry faculty recently expanded to include Dr. Kevin Kittilstved. He brought with him several new instruments including an electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometer, a magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectrometer, and several others. These instruments will not only aid the Kittilstved group in the pursuit of our research, but further the department’s capabilities as a whole. The goal of this talk is to provide an introductory understanding of EPR for anyone in the department who might not be familiar with this technique. This presentation will also provide a foundation for our future work and inform the department of the capabilities of this new instrument. As such, this talk will address not only the core principles underlying EPR, i.e. Zeeman splitting, microwave resonance, etc. but the function, use, and analysis with the ELEXSYS-II E500 CW-EPR. Attendees should leave this lecture with a deeper understanding of EPR as a technique and how it can potentially benefit their research.
