CHE 598 Seminar: Managing Carbon, Growing Economies

J-Seaba

About the event

Presenter: James Seaba, Senior Director of Technology Development, Gas Technology Institute (GTI)

GTI is a leading research, development and training organization focused on solving global energy and environmental challenges by developing technology-driven solutions for consumers, industry, and government. Over the last 80 years, GTI has provided technologies to address the biggest problems facing the energy Industry, from national energy security to providing cost effective, clean energy solutions. Decarbonization of the energy sector, however, poses entirely new economic and technological challenges. To avoid environmental  impacts such as climate change and ocean acidification, we must significantly limit carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere. Doing this while also enabling continued and increased global access to affordable energy will require not only the production and use of carbon neutral fuels with existing infrastructure, but also the extraction of carbon from our ecosystem. And it requires thinking about actions needed today to limit emissions in the future. GTI is working to envision what potential pathways to deep decarbonization could look like beyond 2030.  Our Managing Carbon, Growing Economies initiative evaluates how an integrated energy system with many technologies can accelerate innovation in all business sectors. GTI is looking for partners to help us make this vision happen.
