Overview

This presentation will provide a brief introduction about the ERO Event Analysis Process and provide an overview of performance of EMS based on the analysis of NERC reportable events from October 2019 to September 2020. The analysis includes the trend in number of reported events, outage restoration times, and mitigation strategies.

Bio

Dr. Wei Qiu is currently a Senior Engineer of Event Analysis in the Reliability Assessment & Performance Analysis at NERC. As an EMS SME, Wei is responsible for analyzing the EMS events reported, understanding the causes, trending and working with the industry to develop remediation strategies. Prior to NERC, Wei was a software manager managing the EMS applications especially state estimation and real time contingency analysis at GE Grid Solutions in Redmond, WA. Wei earned his Ph.D in EE from Illinois Institute of Technology. He is an IEEE senior member.
