Title: A novel sulfenic acid donor template and the mechanistic study of cyclo-elimination of alpha-siloxy sulfoxides
Zoom Only
Shane Kelly:  (Xian Group)

Abstract: Sulfenic acids are fleeting yet crucial biological species that are still poorly understood due to their short half-life. To explore the full extent of their influence, we require a chemical tool box containing small-molecule donors. These donors do not yet exist; however, we may attempt to modify previous donors which we have developed in order to suit the task. I have generated a sulfenic acid donor template and coincidentally discovered a Brook-type reaction which I mechanistically investigated. This Brook-type reaction may be utilized to generate Allicin which is known to possess antioxidant properties. As a potential antioxidant donor which is activated under oxidative stress conditions, this donor could mitigate harmful effects of disease states.
