Title: Research Update: Determining speciation and structure of Uranium in molten halide salts

Abstract: The aim of this research includes exploring the speciation and thermodynamics of uranium and fission product elements in molten salts, determining how structure variations affect the stability and cause differences between molten salt systems, and furthering the development of predictive models (integrating experimental and computational efforts) for describing thermodynamics and solubility of actinides and lanthanides in molten halide salts. Experiments will provide new insights into the thermodynamics of molten salt systems, which provides a rational basis for evaluating operational and off-normal safety margins of future molten salt reactors (MSRs).
