AI Tools in an Open Research Landscape
About the event
In the past two years, AI tools have emerged as a significant changemaker in academic research. These tools enable new kinds of research questions and cross-disciplinary collaborations. Many of them are being developed using open datasets and publications made available by researchers in compliance with funder requirements. The shift toward open scholarship has helped foster rapid growth in the AI market. New possibilities—and challenges—have cropped up as a result. This panel will discuss these trends within various fields at Washington State University. How have AI models shifted research agendas? What possibilities and complications does open data present for researchers who are using AI? Who owns academic knowledge, and who should guide its use?
