Title: My Journey through IT and Cybersecurity

Speaker: Shaun Marquardt

Abstract: The field of Information Technology and cybersecurity is vast. Students coming out of accredited institutions with degrees may sometimes get confused at the dizzying array of opportunities available to them and wonder how to get started in the field as a career. This seminar focuses on my personal journey through the field and reflects on several career paths graduates can take as they look to enter the field. The seminar will also introduce cybersecurity at a high level, especially as it relates to business and risk. Lastly, we will discuss opportunities for employment with the State of Washington.

Speaker Bio: Shaun is a Cybersecurity Architect for the Office of the Washington State Auditor. They are a cybersecurity professional with over 18 years of experience working not only in cybersecurity but also in operations, system administration, and engineering. Shaun holds a Master’s of Cybersecurity and Leadership from the University of Washington and the industry standard Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certificate from ISC2. They have spent the last 8 years working for the State of Washington to provide services that support the State’s most vulnerable residents and ensure the security of data as agencies are audited.
