CU*iP 2025 at WSU

APPLICATION

INTERESTED IN ATTENDING CU*iP?

Applications open August 26th, 2024!

Any undergraduate student with an interest in physics may apply to attend a Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP). Washington State University will host students from Washington, Idaho, Northern Oregon, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska. Students from other states should consult the list of CU*iP host sites.

You apply to attend a CU*iP conference, then you are directed to a nearby CU*iP site. The site reviews your application and you are accepted or declined. After you have been accepted, you will need to register and pay a $45 fee to confirm that you will actually be attending.

If your department is not covering the registration fee, and the $45 fee is causing financial hardship, you may request a fee waiver by contacting women@aps.org to request a registration fee waiver form. Please note, fee waiver requests must be made two days in advance of the registration deadline.

We encourage graduate students, postdocs or interested faculty to register via our internal application.

Applications open August 26, 2024.

STEP 1: APPLICATION

While the conference targets undergraduate women and gender minorities passionate about physics and astronomy, anyone seriously interested in attending CU*iP may apply.

Applications open August 26, 2024 and must be submitted by the deadline of October 23, 2024. It is very important to complete all parts of the application and to write a thoughtful Applicant Statement. In case conferences are oversubscribed, priority will be given to applicants who:

  • Are an undergraduate physics or astrophysics major
  • Are from a community college and plan/intend to transfer to a Physics program
  • Have never attended an APS CU*iP

We are excited to invite undergraduate students to apply to attend CU*iP at Washington State University in January 2025. In order to maximize the number of CU*iP participants we can accommodate, APS will allocate participants to sites based on travel logistics and site capacity. Please do not purchase travel or plan to be at a specific site until you receive an email confirming you have been accepted to a specific CUWiP site.

Application and registration are different! Those who are accepted to attend their regional CU*iP will receive an invitation to register for the conference in their acceptance email.

STEP 2: REGISTRATION

You will receive an email from APS Physics on November 12, 2024 regarding the status of your application. After you have been accepted, you then register with the conference to which you have been accepted to confirm that you will actually be attending. You may be assigned to a different CU*iP conference than the map indicates above depending on the number of applications received for that region.Deadline for registration is December 3, 2024.

Lodging on Friday and Saturday night (for non-local students) and food will be covered by the conference.  We expect that your travel expenses will be covered by your home department or college. However, if they are not able to cover these expenses, travel funding is available. To be reimbursed for travel, you must contact us before booking any travel arrangements. For details please visit the Travel Reimbursement section of this website.
